HARRIET ARZU SCARBOROUGH
ABOUT HARRIET
"Learn your history
And the stories of your people
A people strong and resilient
Who with courage
Traversed oceans and seas
To build anew"
Dr. Harriet Arzu Scarborough was born in the small Garifuna village of Barranco in Belize, Central America. Harriet boasts deep roots in Barranco: Her great-great-great grandfather, Santiago Avilez also known as Gaünbü, founded Barranco in the early 1800's. She can also trace her ancestry to two brothers who were early inhabitants of Barranco—Theodore and Anastacio Palacio.
After over thirty-five years of successful teaching in Belize and USA, Harriet continues to pursue her passion for reading and writing. Her publications include the textbook, Writing across the Curriculum in Secondary Schools: Teaching from a Diverse Perspective, numerous articles in the English Journal and the Arizona English Bulletin, and Stories of Home: A Barranco Memoir.
She is currently at work on a memoir, THE GARIFUNA TEACHER'S DAUGHTER.
I Sing Barranco is available at Daker's Stationery & Books in Belmopan, Belize and on Amazon.
